In February of 2009, Streetfilms returned to the Madison Square plaza to talk to people about what they enjoyed about the plaza and how it has improved the area.
They also interviewed people who were involved in making the plaza a reality. One such person is Jennifer Brown, BID Executive Director of the Flatiron/23rd Partnership who says of the plaza:
[The] DOT totally reconfigured the traffic patterns and created all of this public space… There’ve actually been a lot of good reactions to both sides of it—the traffic reconfiguration, the new bike lanes of course, and also the seating areas, despite the fact that we’re immediately adjacent to one of the most premier parks in the city—people still really seem to embrace this type of public space on the plaza.
The video shows before and after footage of the plaza and an in-depth, yet brief, overview of the process the area went through in order to house one of the city’s most popular pedestrian plazas.
